00:01 Let's create the top of a mountain.
00:03 Not just a standalone mountain,
but actually something really, tall and.
00:08 Rugged.
And you can see, like, the top part of it.
00:11 Let me show you what I mean.
00:12 So I'm going to create a Mountain node,
00:14 and I'm gonna set it to Strata mode
so I can get some of these.
00:18 Cool uplifts on the top of the mountain.
00:22 Which.
00:22 Fun fact
this is how most mountains are made.
00:25 Especially the big tall ones.
00:26 So they uplift like this.
00:29 Now, what I'm going to do
is I'm going to increase the Height,
00:31 and I'm going to increase the Scale.
00:34 But then at the same time
I'm going to reduce the Bulk.
00:37 So what happens is
we get these amazing pinnacles
00:41 like these cool looking, sharp mountains.
00:45 But I want to adjust this a little bit.
00:46 So I'm going to
increase the Scale even more.
00:51 So it's yeah, it's really high.
00:53 And I'm going to see
if I can maybe reduce the Height
00:56 a little bit
and then also try a different Seed.
00:60 If it's not, you know better than this,
we can always come back.
01:04 It's easy to remember it's 6000.
01:06 So rare to get a round number. So.
01:11 Now you can see we have
01:14 all these cool, different shapes. Ooh!
01:17 I like this one.
01:18 Let's stick with this one for now.
01:20 So the next step is
I want to actually smooth out
01:24 some of these really sharper,
taller, peaks.
01:29 So I am going to create Thermal
Erosion 2.
01:34 And it's going to help me
shave off some of this stuff.
01:37 So let's increase the Duration.
01:39 You can see it's also creating this
beautiful, Talus out here on everything.
01:45 Next step we add erosion.
01:47 So I'll add Erosion.
01:48 2 increase the Duration.
01:51 I'm going to also
increase the Erosion Scale,
01:55 just because I want to have larger,
01:59 flow networks being generated here,
02:03 and then I'll increase
the Coarse Sediments
02:05 all the way.
02:08 So it's creating
all these beautiful flows,
02:11 and then I'll increase the Coarse Angle
just a little bit
02:14 so that we can have more of this sediment
high up on these slopes.
02:19 Now I'm going to create
one more Erosion pass.
02:22 And this time I'm going to have again
the Sediments, but then have them
02:26 be very low
02:29 and let me increase
the Erosion Scale and Duration.
02:32 So we get more of this.
02:35 And so, let me see.
02:39 I'll probably reduce the Downcutting
just a little bit.
02:42 So now with these two passes
we have this whole mountain.
02:47 I think one of the things that happened
02:49 was we lost a little bit of the peaks
that we had up here.
02:54 So to prevent that from happening,
I'll cheat a little bit.
03:00 And I'm going to turn on a Mask by Height
03:04 and mask out.
03:07 All this area, I'm
going to increase the Falloff.
03:11 So it's a gentle effect
and a little bit of Distortion.
03:16 Then come back down here like so.
03:21 And then here in this one,
instead of masking it, I'm
03:25 just going to reduce the Erosion Duration
a little bit and play with the Shape
03:30 so I can maybe retain
some of the original.
03:35 Although I like the high Sharpness.
03:37 But okay. This will do.
03:40 So that's now a cool,
03:42 complex mountain scape.
03:46 To add even more detail to it,
what I'll do is I'll add,
03:49 a level of Outcrops
03:52 so you can see it's
starting to create all this rocky detail.
03:55 But I'm going to reduce the
height of this rocky detail.
04:02 Like so.
04:05 And then I'll run
04:06 another Erosion pass on top of this.
04:09 This time again
we'll have lots of Coarse Sediments.
04:12 Let's increase the Bed Load as well.
04:15 I'm going to reduce the Down
Cutting and increase the Duration.
04:19 So it does this.
04:21 And then I will switch to Min mode.
04:25 So then we get all this beautiful exposed
04:27 strata right there.
04:31 This is looking cool.
04:32 So now,
I am going to create an Adjust node
04:37 and artificially increase the height
04:41 like so.
04:43 Normally I wouldn't do that for terrains,
but just because we're dealing
04:46 with a mountain peak
and we lost a little bit of the original,
04:50 peak down, here or up here.
04:54 I want to bring some of it back.
04:55 It was artificially high because, when
we started, we had, you know, Low Bulk.
05:01 Now, again, if I switch to Medium Bulk,
you can see we get something like this.
05:06 And going through the rest of the process,
we would end up with something
05:09 like this.
05:10 So we don't have that peak at all.
05:13 So I'm going to go back, switch to Low,
05:16 go to the Erosion and Outcrops
05:20 and then Erosion again
and then artificially raise this.
05:24 So that's our mountain.
05:26 And now there's artificially raised.
05:28 Let's add one more pass of Erosion.
05:30 So in this
05:33 because we have the stronger slopes
because of the added height,
05:37 the Erosion process has new,
05:41 angles literally to play with.
05:44 So when we have a Bed Load
05:47 or Suspended Load or Coarse Sediment,
any of these,
05:51 they have a lot more slope to play with.
05:53 And so we're
now getting all this beautiful detail.
05:56 If you don't want it to be so detailed,
you can reduce the detail size,
06:01 because then you want to have more focus
on the flows.
06:03 For example, I'm going to reduce Down
Cutting just a tad
06:08 and increase Duration
so that we get, again these bigger flows.
06:13 We can adjust the Coarse Angle
to bring the flow
06:17 further down here than up here
or inversely bring it way more,
06:22 up the slope to give it
that bulkier feeling.
06:26 Personally, though,
I like it a little bit down here.
06:29 There's something interesting going on.
06:31 So this is now turning into a cool
mountain peak.
06:34 And, I'm tempted
06:37 to add a bit more, just a little bit more.
06:40 So I'm going to add Sandstone,
which is not generally
06:44 what we would think of on, a landscape
like this.
06:48 But I'm going to go here,
I'm going to turn off Chipped.
06:51 And what I want to do is
06:52 create all this beautiful striations.
06:55 Because you do find them
a lot on these tall mountains.
06:59 So I'm going to increase the spacing
between these,
07:02 these strata.
07:04 And I'm going to set the Passes to four.
07:07 So that repeats many times.
07:10 Okay. That's way too many.
07:11 I'm going to switch down to two.
07:13 And then I'm going to reduce the Intensity
a bit.
07:17 And finally lots of Chaos.
07:20 Always a lot of Chaos like so.
07:23 But since we don't want this dominating
07:26 the whole mountain,
I'm going to Mask this by Height.
07:30 Bring it.
07:31 Down here.
07:33 Little high Falloff, lots of Distortion.
07:37 So there's some unevenness.
07:39 Now, I think I will bring up the Intensity
07:42 a little bit
just so the effect plays better.
07:46 I can now reduce the
07:47 actual height
since we have a very high Falloff.
07:51 So something like this
07:53 maybe change the Convexity of it
07:57 and then I'll have one more pass of
Erosion.
08:01 Again high sedimentation
08:05 like so.
08:06 But then I will also go back to Min mode
08:10 so that some of this exposed
08:12 strata can creep through like out here.
08:16 So I think this is really good and ready.
08:20 Last thing we need to do is texture this.
08:23 And so rather than setting up
a whole TextureBase system
08:26 and whatnot, I'm going to be lazy.
08:28 I'm just going to have a single SatMap
directly hooked up to Erosion.
08:32 And now I'm just going to spend a little
bit of time trying to find the right,
08:37 SatMap that will work on this,
because I would like to have variation
08:41 in the colors based on the different
levels of altitude. So
08:47 something like this, for example.
08:49 Or if we were to reverse it like so,
08:53 let's try it.
08:55 We can always change this.
08:56 And so I'll go straight to ColorErosion
after this.
08:59 Feed it the erosion.
09:01 The last erosion has the height.
09:03 And then really just amp up
all the settings.
09:07 Well not all the settings,
but most of the settings.
09:11 And so you can see
that's already giving us
09:13 this beautiful, texture.
09:17 But I think these colors may be just a
tad too stark.
09:21 So another thing we can do
is let's mix and match.
09:23 I'm going to add one more SatMap
and let's
09:27 so this one was 189.
09:30 Funny.
09:31 This is also 189.
09:32 But let's go for a different tone.
09:34 Like, maybe this one or this one or
09:38 let's go for
09:39 this one, but instead of having it
be just plain, strata lines like this,
09:44 I'm going to have Medium roughness,
which will just jitter the,
09:49 the, the shapes around a little bit and,
and create noise.
09:53 I'm going to combine these two
09:56 and then I'm going to feed
that to the ColorErosion.
09:59 And there you can see we're kind of now
getting a better palette.
10:02 It's not so stark like this.
10:04 And it's like this.
10:06 We can also play around a bit
with Blend mode.
10:08 I'm not sure what exactly we will get,
but if we switch to Min,
10:12 we get more of the previous,
10:13 one dominating
because of course, that's a darker shade.
10:17 If we go Max, it's the other way around.
10:19 And then we have Blend, but.
10:22 What I liked in Max is we get to keep
some of the stronger, brighter peaks,
10:27 as compared to Blend
where they become dull.
10:30 So let's go with Max for now.
10:32 And it's only 50%.
10:33 We could probably make it higher,
but now 50% is fine.
10:38 And then when we feed this to our Color
Erosion, you can see we get this
10:43 beautiful map.
10:45 I think my Flow Volume is
10:47 a bit high,
so I'm going to reduce that a little bit.
10:51 And now if we go here, you know what.
10:55 In fact let me switch this to 4K
so we can see this in great detail.
11:01 And there.
11:01 Now we have our terrain
in really high definition.
11:04 So you can see we have all these beautiful
shapes up here.
11:08 There's all the flows coming down.
11:11 We have that stratification that we added
11:14 and all kinds of beautiful mountain
structures up here.
11:18 So there you have it.
11:19 That's a tall mountain range
that we can play with it further.
11:23 You can easily add snow.
11:24 Like just go here, add Snow
11:28 and we'll have lots of beautiful snow.
11:31 You can play with Melt
11:33 and just create some cool shapes on this
on a snowy mountain.
11:37 Play it with however you like.
11:38 And so yeah,
this is a great way to get like a mountain
11:43 that you might want to use
as a background asset.
11:46 Maybe in a Skybox, maybe in a VFX shot,
11:49 you can easily create
multiple different variations.
11:52 So for example, if I switch back to one k,
just so it processes a bit faster
11:57 and I go back to our original mountain.
11:59 And so instead of this Seed, I'm
going to randomly select something else
12:04 like this where, oh, we have split peaks.
12:07 And then using this same process
just go back all the way to the end.
12:14 And you can see how well this works.
12:17 We have that same setting,
just a whole different, landscape.
12:22 So you can play with this,
create multiple, variations
12:25 assets however you want to play with them
and then set them up in your scene.
